At RMS we have a fully qualified music teacher who has been studying Music therapy concurrently with their teaching. Ryan has worked as a music teacher for many years but it was always a fascination to him that music therapy was never a bigger part of the school curriculum, especially considering the growth in children with apparent learning difficulties.
Ryan believes that learning difficulties are only as difficult as the methods in which we teach. After teaching music to pupils with Asperger’s syndrome and managing to ensure children enjoy music lessons even though they do not like loud noises really is something that got his attention. Since having that experience Ryan has endeavoured to teach in such a way as to cater for ALL rather than for the majority.
Since leaving teaching to go self-employed, Ryan is now setting up music therapy workshops which will run either in schools or at an alternate venue on a weekend which will enable young people to enjoy making music together. This helps students to be more confident and helps them to feel empowered to beat things that they normally find a little scary, by making it exciting whilst focussing on achievement and praise.
Jonathan, one of Ryan’s old pupils merely said:
“Just Brillent.”
At least we think this is what it said. The hand-writing in the card was a little tricky to read but it is Ryan’s favourite ever review to date. 😉
There are currently no sessions booked in, and so we plan to organize one at a venue in Wakefield for a weekend sometime soon. When events fill up a little we will update this page with a calendar so If you are interested in coming along to a session, then normally if we get a few numbers together we can plan an event to cater specifically for the attendees needs. If you would like to join a mailing list for up-to-date info on when these sessions might be, then please click here.
